Beginning at the transition point of the East Bay Commuter Express Monorail, 42 miles inland from San Francisco, the northern section of the California High-Speed Monorail would traverse 260 miles of the San Joaquin Valley before entering and climbing the California Grapevine and 4,000 foot elevation mountain passes of the Los Padres National Forest, all in the center median of the California I-5 Freeway, before entering the Santa Clarita Valley in Los Angeles County, proceeding in the I-5 Freeway median across the San Fernando Valley to the downtown Los Angeles central monorail station, completing the 340-mile San Francisco Bay Area-Los Angeles portion of the California High-Speed Monorail System.
The San Francisco-Los Angeles High Speed Monorail route is part of California High Speed Monorail System, an American Monorail proposed alternative to the poorly received California High Speed Rail (non-monorail) initiative.
