Proposed and designed as an alternative commuting route between the West San Fernando Valley and Downtown Los Angeles, the monorail system to be built in the Los Angeles River right of way paralleling several of the most heavily traveled freeway corridors in the world – the I-101, I-134 and I-5 freeways – would provide an attractive alternative to hundreds of thousands of commuters per day. It would provide convenient access to several of southern California’s most important destinations such as Warner Center, the Cities of Burbank and Glendale and the Van Nuys and Bob Hope Airports, as well as significant recreational venues such as the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area, Mulholland Gateway Park and Griffith Park.
