“Never Built LA” Show Highlights Lost Monorail Opportunity
From July 28 through October 13, the Architecture and Design (A+D) Museum presents a compelling new show about what “could have been” for Los Angeles. A thorough compendium of projects that only saw the drawing board, the exhibition asks: With Los Angeles having so many great architects, why do they fail in urban innovation? Why were these projects never built? Should some of them be revisited today?
None of the projects beg that question more than those regarding monorails. The exhibit makes note of two proposed monorail systems, in 1953 and 1964, that would have been completed without public funding or subsidy, yet were not adopted or supported by local governments or the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority, therefore representing missed opportunities in LA’s “Never Built” history.

December 2011 International Monorail Association Meeting
Las Vegas, Nevada. December marks the first USA conference of the International Monorail Association (IMA). Monorailex 2011 takes place December 14-16 at the Las Vegas Hilton, which has its own station on the Las Vegas Monorail. Monorailex 2011 will feature a trade show on Thursday the 15th, as well as numerous informative seminars. On Friday the 16th, conference participants will collectively enjoy a ride on the Las Vegas Monorail followed by a very rare tour of the monorail system’s Operations Maintenance Storage Facility (OMSF).
The IMA was founded in 2009 to organize the global monorail sector, publish information, promote monorail and establish performance standards. Conference registration information can be found on the IMA website.

The American Monorail Project website
Welcome to the American Monorail Project website. We here at American Monorail hope that this website serves as a centralized point of communication about the wonderful technology of monorails. It is our sincere hope that this site can serve to educate people about the benefits of monorail systems and how their lives could improve should their local municipalities adopt some of our proposals.
Sincerely,
The staff at American Monorail, Inc.
Some fear California’s high-speed rail won’t deliver on early promises
There’s concern that local, state or federal subsidies would be needed as projected ticket prices between L.A. and San Francisco have almost doubled. And building costs for the first phase have grown
